NEPTUNE

[Neptune] Neptune
Series role: Neptune is an interesting project for the characters in Book 0 to work on—they try to get her to communicate. Neptune pops up throughout all the books as a general curiosity, and performs one important role in Book 2: Helping Zeke count cards in a casino.

THE PHYSICAL:

Vitals: Long wavy snow-white hair. Big, wide-set pinkish-red eyes. Paper-white skin. Indeterminate age—hasn’t changed at all in the characters’ memory—looks early twenties. Very tall and curvy. Has big white feathery angel wings.

Other features: Has a high musical voice. Often hums or sings nonsense words. Often has at least one hand on her face somewhere. Is always wearing a one-piece yellow low-backed dress if anything at all.

THE PERSONAL:

Talents/Abilities: Can turn basically invisible at will—spends much of her time that way. Sings well. Has a photographic memory if she remembers to click. Very good sense of smell.

Weaknesses/Shortcomings: Has a rather severe case of autism. Cannot understand most concepts presented to her. No manners or understanding of others’ feelings.

Interests: Exploring, eating, flying, playing with sand and looking at shiny things. Babbling and repeating things others have said. Daydreaming.

Other information: Stays invisible most of the time because she’s very uncomfortable in the sun—it burns her skin. Stays in her own world and is very childlike, oblivious of other people as entities, more like playthings to her. Accepts the presence of Zeke, Adele, Alix, Dax, Miki, and Weaver the most. For some reason does not feel comfortable around Ivy, so she spends little time around her.

THE STORY:

Neptune was known as just the voice in the forest until Adele got curious and led the boys in a mission to find her in Book 0. They spent some time trying to tame her, take care of her, and interest her in bringing back some of the “self” she lost in her dimensional trip. They were only marginally successful but sometimes in the current books she can carry on a limited conversation. Zeke experimented with the savant syndrome she developed as a symptom of her autism, and taught her to calculate odds and do complex higher math in her head. Later uses her skills to count cards in Atlantic City to get some quick cash for an astronomical water bill. Otherwise, Neptune just hangs around the house or wanders outside.
