Please note that because I want to retain my first publishing rights, NONE of the novels for which I am shooting for publication can be offered in their entirety on the Internet. Only that which is within "sample material" guidelines—what one would send as a partial for an agent or publisher—can be posted here. Full manuscripts will be provided to interested parties if they agree to provide ME with editing assistance or opinions. Comments always welcome!

QUICK SNIPPETS ON CURRENT PROJECTS (More on each individual page):
Finding Mulligan:My current front-burner project is about a seventeen-year-old college student who travels to a fantasyland in her dreams and lives a whole second life during the night. The plot follows her growing identity issues when her dream self falls in love with the fantasyland's attractive musician Mulligan . . . and her waking self investigates finding the real world's version of him. No excerpts are available at this time because I have begun the submission process looking for a literary agent, but you can read more about the story or watch the YouTube teaser.
Joint Custody:Bay, a fifth-grade boy with divorced parents, shares his philosophical ponderings about roadkill, conformity, having two houses, and the mysterious girl named Marz who's always taking his picture. First-person present-tense story about a kid who thinks a little different and just wants to know where home is.
The House That Ivy Built 5:Part 5 of The House That Ivy Built series. Ivy is a naïve but powerful telekinetic teenager who's fighting her identity issues with the help of her counseling group, "Handprints." With the addition of an important new member, the group participates in a superhero-like rescue mission, which changes Ivy's motivation and her entire perception of herself. But part of her still has an annoying desire to be accepted as normal. This book is about her attempt to reconcile the conflicting desires and pressures in her life.
Bad Fairy:This retelling of Sleeping Beauty bills itself as the autobiography of the character who inspired the fairy tale's notorious "bad fairy." Delia Morningstar tells her life story from birth to death and beyond. Her experiences growing up as an outcast in fairy society lead her to make enemies and pursue shadowy destinies, and eventually she finds herself cast as a scapegoat for a princess's curse when her attempt to help her kingdom is misunderstood. Delia's life in hiding changes her perception of herself and the world, and though she remains a child of the dark, she begins to appreciate the light as well. My fairy tale retelling is the most "epic," the most traditional, and definitely the darkest of my novels and is very atypical of my style.
The House That Ivy Built 0:Part 0 of The House That Ivy Built series. (It's a prequel.) This is the story of the first meeting and early group dynamics of the people who raised Ivy and covers her introduction to the group once Adele finds her around age four. It's easy to understand even if you've never read previous THTIB books, but it will be more significant for those with some understanding of the characters. Readers of Negative One (my webcomic) will be inundated with spoilers if they read this.

(College years—1996-2000):

(The summer of 1996 was when I really started to get serious about writing, but nothing I wrote during this period was spectacular, nor is any of it up to my current standards. The only long fiction I worked on in my college years was The House That Ivy Built series.)

QUICK SNIPPETS ON OLDER PROJECTS (More on each individual page):
Book 1:Ivy is a telekinetic teenager with a short attention span, little discipline, a carefree attitude, and a short fuse. She has little knowledge of the outside world because of a sheltered upbringing, but when her older and wiser caretaker sends her into the outside world to win the trust of a little girl named Nina, Ivy starts to wonder if she might want to be part of the outside world after all . . . and what she'll have to do to make it let her in. The truth about Nina makes Ivy wonder about her own place in the world and in her own home.
Book 2:Ivy's insatiable curiosity about the outside world has attracted her to the idea of trying public school for the first time in her life. Self-control, secrecy, and acceptance become Ivy's issues, but at the same time she's enjoying making mischief with her new housemate, Bailey. Ivy spends this book trying to reconcile her differences with the outside world and figuring out to what extent she fits.
Book 3:Now Ivy wants to earn her keep and make herself useful, so she takes on some odd jobs. Her housemate Zeke, who's always had a crush on her, begins to go to great lengths to chase her, and Ivy explores the possibility of romance (though she doesn't really seem to have it in her). After a fight with Zeke, Ivy is inspired by a friend to use her unusual talents in the dramatic arts, and she teams up with local playwright Ruben to bring creativity to life together. Ivy finds meaning in both her exploration of theater and her friendship with Ruben.
Book 4:Ruben convinces Ivy to participate in a psychological society's challenge and ultimately wins a large cash prize for proving telekinesis exists. The money allows Ruben to finance his dream—an arts teaching workshop—but it also attracts media attention and brings her into contact with people from her distant past. She also makes a connection with a couple new people who are like herself, and after lots of soul-searching, Ivy founds a counseling group for people like her with extraordinary abilities trying to feel at ease in society.

QUICK SNIPPETS ON ANCIENT PROJECTS (More on each individual page):
"Bruce the Duck":This was a chapter-a-page ongoing gag story whose (huge!) cast of characters was entirely taken either from my personal life or from my favorite characters and celebrities. Despite its being deliberately silly, it taught me a lot about writing, and it even became a silly high school movie. There really wasn't much of a plot, but Bruce was a duck who lost his can of Spam, and his friends had to help him retrieve it. Then they had a big Spam party after which everyone caught a horrible (and silly!) sickness because the Spam can was diseased. References to this story are still made among my friends today. You can read the entire stupid thing on this page AND you can even view special extras on the characters and a few clips from the "Bruce" movie!
"Skyler Stories":Skyler is a seventh-grader whose mysterious fever as an infant left her with the random ability to read people's minds. This reluctant telepath is shy and socially awkward, and though she wishes she was better at fitting in, her peers paradoxically disgust her. Home life is not great either; she's the youngest of five with a single mom, and her family knows she's intuitive but not exactly why. They mostly ignore her. Skye then meets the enthusiastic independent bookstore owner Austin, who has an interest in parapsychology, and she is happy to become Skyler's confidante. Through her connections and information, Skyler discovers some weaker but useful untapped abilities and meets a couple other people who are similar to her, including Jason, her new boyfriend who knows about things before they happen. But just as she's starting to feel she belongs somewhere, her world is rocked by a prophetic dream featuring disaster in her family. Skyler hadn't figured out how to save her sister yet when I stopped writing the story. Skyler was later scooped, up, refurbished, and plopped into my The House That Ivy Built series as a character in Book 5.
"Al's Story":A novella in which Alecia Andrea Addamson meets Allen Andrew Adams and they fall in love. The two joke about their matching names and learn about each other, but there are some strange things about Al. Alecia notices his eyes change color weirdly and he can do strange things like open locks without having the combination. Shortly after she begins a sexual relationship with him and accidentally gets pregnant with his baby, she finds out he's an alien and he's going back to his home planet. Oops. The rest of the story involves her trying to get by on her own with her alien baby and what it does to her normal life, and it explores the faith she has that Al will return for her. Surprisingly good for being crap, actually.
Double Vision:My first novel. Cristabel and Ben Saunders are fraternal twins who are suddenly forced to switch schools and end up at an institution-like boarding school with many other pairs of twins. Investigating their situation yields clues about why they're being studied as they're being taught, and they use some discoveries they've made about themselves to uncover the truth and escape from danger. This thing is really, really, really bad. Really.
