BILL

[Bill] William Frey
Series role: Introduced in Book 1: Ivy’s basketball partner. Provides an “average guy” friendship and attempts to teach Ivy some coordination and physical fitness throughout Book 2. Pops up now and then in the later books.

THE PHYSICAL:

Vitals: Sandy, straight blonde hair, cut short, blonde eyebrows. Small dark blue eyes. Tanned skin. Early twenties, about 6’2”, fairly muscular.

Other features: Low voice with Southern accent. Usually wears comfortable active wear whenever Ivy sees him.

THE PERSONAL:

Talents/Abilities: Competent at nearly any sport he tries, especially basketball, roller-blading, and bicycling. Very coordinated. Excellent balance.

Weaknesses/Shortcomings: Not the best conversationalist. Comes across dumber than he is because of bad communication skills. Eats too much junk food and drinks socially.

Interests: Basketball, playing and watching sports, going camping, dating, eating.

Other information: College student. A little conservative in politics and religion—no deeply-felt spiritual beliefs, but believes one “should” go to church. Wants to be married someday, and is responsible with dating choices. Has a nuclear family with two younger brothers and a younger sister.

THE STORY:

While using the basketball hoop for a chair, Ivy encountered Bill. She had been thinking about how to make friends because she had realized she teases and harasses people too much, so when she met Bill she attempted to be honest and friendly. She showed him her ability and accepted his dare to try to pick up a truck. They got along well and he tried to teach her to dribble a ball. In Book 2, Ivy started taking regular lessons from Bill, trying to learn to be more coordinated. Because she’d made little progress, Bill suggested maybe they should try other sports, and introduced her to roller-blading and bicycling, neither of which she has the balance to do properly. He continues to play basketball with her throughout the series, and occasionally he acts as a sounding board for her problems, and is very frank and up front about how she needs to stop relying on her energy if she ever wants to get better physically.
