As is her way, Andrea spotted Ivy on her first day at school and invited her to share a lunch table with her and her friends. Through her and this group, Ivy learned about being a high school student and got to feel like one of the girls, experiencing her first sleepover and social outings. Andrea noticed Ivy absentmindedly using her energy and confronted her, which eventually led to a limited confession (which Andrea promised to keep secret). She broke her promise accidentally and leaked the secret to her two best friends, who also each had a less surprising secret about Ivy, and at a vacation sleepover they told her what they knew. Ivy was relieved to find that they still wanted to be her friends. The relationship was altered only a little bit, until for other reasons Ivy dropped out of school and could only see them intermittently. Ivy continues to drop by during gatherings of the girls throughout the later books, interested to see her friends growing up.
