Marble Halls
This song is about a person of very high social status, maybe a princess or some sort of royalty. Well, actually, it is about a dream about being that person. In spite of the fact that she is a very high-status individual, a person close to her loves her the same as anyone of a lower status. Sometimes being very high-status can chase away people of lower status, and they think they "have no chance" or that the high-status person would not want to associate with them. This song is about a person who thinks no such thing and loves this girl anyway. In my drawing, I have put a girl and a boy, with the boy's protective embrace around her. The purple in her hair is symbolic of her royal lineage (purple is the color of royalty), and the purple jewel is symbolic of her material riches. The boy has no such things. They are framed in an ideal, like the dream. This song sounds just like a lullaby. :)
Marble Halls--lyrics
I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls
With vassals and serfs at my side,
And of all who assembled within those walls
That I was the hope and the pride.
I had riches all too great to count
And a high ancestral name.
But I also dreamt which pleased me most
That you loved me still the same,
That you loved me
You loved me still the same,
That you loved me
You loved me still the same.
I dreamt that suitors sought my hand,
That knights upon bended knee
And with vows no maiden's heart could withstand,
They pledged their faith to me.
And I dreamt that one of that noble host
Came forth my hand to claim.
But I also dreamt which charmed me most
That you loved me still the same
That you loved me
That you loved me
You loved me still the same.
