Lolita
This is my Lolita. She's in her mother's black dress, as the song says. She's still very young, but she looks like she could pass for older now that she's all spruced up. Right now, Lolita is between two worlds, the world of her youth and the world of adulthood. The green lines on one side are trying to pull her back into the past, to make her stay a child and to obey her parents and the rules of a young girl. However, the brownish lines, pulling her toward adulthood, encourage her to go toward her young adult life. Both influences pull on her, and right now, neither is winning. There are some hidden dangers of the adult world, but they appeal to her as a new experience. At the same time, she does value the protection of youth. Right now, she wants to be adult but just isn't quite there yet.
Lolita--lyrics
Lolita
Almost grown
Lolita
Go on home
Hey girl
Don't be a dog all your life
Don't beg for
Some little crumb of affection
Don't try
To be somebody's wife
So young
You need a word of protection
Lolita
Almost grown
Lolita
Go on home
Hey girl
I've been where you are standing
Leaning in the doorway
In your mother's black dress
So hungry
For the one understanding
Looking for a token of
Blood or tenderness
Lolita
Almost grown
Lolita
Go on home
Lolita . . .
