CANOPY

The treetops make a star for me
six points
It looks like a snowflake
It fills my whole vision
And there beyond the star
Are the points of light
Which are really just the sun
Coming through the gaps in the branches.
But they come into the foreground
as though the treetops
are behind the sun.
They first form the star.
As the treetops become background,
I can go past the star
and into the blackness
which seems to turn into a meadow
hanging in the sky
seemingly precariously
but actually quite solid.
And as I jump into it
Keeping my eyes on the mountains
I begin to fly
and I snap back out
then the meadow becomes
the treetops again.
And the star
is just the sunlight
shining through the trees.
