THE WISDOM OF THE IVYVERSE

RESPONSIBILITY

The person with the heaviest weight of responsibility in the Ivy series is probably Adele. Ever since she first began training as a prophet in another dimension, she has been plagued by expectations that she sometimes finds overwhelming:

Much later in her life, Adele has become much more adept at her future-telling arts, and yet she still struggles with the issue of responsibility:

In this conversation with Ivy, Adele goes on to discuss obligation. Do they have an obligation to use their talents for the benefit of mankind just because they were born with them? Adele doesn’t think so:

Adele sometimes wrestles with whether to help, but Ivy has almost the opposite problem. Her abilities combined with her short fuse can make her a loaded weapon:

In Ivy’s case, perhaps her responsibility is to simply refrain from taking advantage of people through sheer physical strength. Her powers make her a hard person to trust, but after building a rapport during which she always acts responsibly, eventually it is possible for her to gain people’s confidence.

But Ivy also struggles with responsibility issues; she’s strong, she’s fast, and she can do things nobody else can do. People often suggest she should be a superhero. But she has a point:

True, she never “signed anything.” And she shouldn’t have to offer anything of her abilities that makes her uncomfortable. But she should keep in mind that she has a responsibility to avoid hurting even if she doesn’t choose to seek out ways to help.

Above all, live up to your responsibilities. Don’t try to make up stories about your own shortcomings being other people’s fault:
