Conversation with Brooke

Categories: Religion

This is a kid who IMed me probably because she'd seen my site and put my name on her buddy list, only to later IM me not remembering who I was.

Brooke: so wut is your real name

SwankiVY2: "My real name"?

Brooke: yes

SwankiVY2: I don't know what you're talking about. My real name as opposed to what?

Brooke: like mine is [name deleted] wut is yours

SwankiVY2: You want to call me something you can just call me Ivy, I'm not giving out my whole name on the Internet to somebody I don't really know

Brooke: o ok but u can trust me cuz i am a christian u can ask any one

SwankiVY2: First off I don't know WHY you want my name or what you'd do with it

SwankiVY2: And secondly, being "a christian" doesn't equal "being trustworthy." I'm not saying you're not. I'm just saying your religion has NOTHING to do with it.

SwankiVY2: Not to mention I'm *not* a Christian and I have no special respect for you just because you are

Brooke: well let me tell u... i don't care if u tell i realy wouldn't of cared it would of jus been another name to and u kno u should really try goin to church cuz u r very snobby

SwankiVY2: I'm not Christian, why would I go to CHURCH? do you actually think that being Christian is the only way to be? The only reason I'm sounding snobby to you is that I told you the truth about how your religion doesn't mean anything about your actions.

Brooke: i don't care but u should really try it and yes a christian should b the only way to b becuz one day when he cums back u havn't believed in him or prayed u will go to hell and u kno wut bein a christian is a good thing becuz u feel good bout u'r self.. and yes ok listen if i was a gangster i could go any where and still or kill sum one and when u'r a christian u do every thing good

SwankiVY2: So you really think that it's impossible for Christians to be bad people?

SwankiVY2: The Christians killed thousands of people in the Inquisition. You should study history before you just believe everything someone feeds you in church.

SwankiVY2: Of course they'll tell you in church "we're the only people who are right," but if you never listen to anyone else and don't make the decision about who's right yourself, then what use is it?

SwankiVY2: People have been waiting more than 2000 years for Jesus to return. The Bible says he would return in the lifetime of the people who saw him die.

SwankiVY2: When that didn't happen, they decided to try to say "lifetime" meant something else. They've been changing their minds about what the prophecies mean for thousands of years.

SwankiVY2: But I wouldn't expect you to be able to make this kind of decision or think this deep about it right now. You're awfully young. Maybe you'll keep what I said in mind, though, and make your own decision when you're old enough to really consider your options.

Brooke: i am not takin nutin of yours in consideration becuz i am olde enough to kno tat he is real. yea let me tell u last year my dad had cancer in his brain yea it bout him but then a few months later they said he didn't do u kno how glad i was to hear that.. wut r u gonna say o it was jus sumpin tat happend well guess wut it wasn't it was a miracle and miracles r from god..

SwankiVY2: You can believe whatever you want. If that religion is what is best for you, then that is fine.

SwankiVY2: But everyone who prays to God and still dies doesn't get to say they got saved.

SwankiVY2: Do you figure that every time someone is hurt in a car wreck and then they pray to God, God saves them?

SwankiVY2: Or that everyone who gets sick and ends up dying didn't pray?

SwankiVY2: that's pretty much like saying "anything that happens is God's will," and that gives you no protection--good people who pray still die every single day.

Brooke: it was there tym to go god didn't want them to suffer any more

SwankiVY2: Who sent the suffering in the first place?

Brooke: god only to have a reason to take u to a better world

SwankiVY2: So he sends you cancer and makes you suffer for many years before finally taking you painfully from your family.

SwankiVY2: sounds very merciful.

SwankiVY2: Not really.

Brooke: well hun u ain't getting no where wit me.. u think wut u want but u remember there is a god

SwankiVY2: I'm not trying to "get anywhere" with you so much as make you realize there are totally understandable reasons to believe in things other than your particular provincial book.

Brooke: but by the way ever thought that the devil has a say is gving u cancer or makin u sick and god doesn't want u to suffer so he send u to a better place which is heaven

SwankiVY2: God created the devil.

SwankiVY2: God is responsible for everything that happens.

SwankiVY2: Many Christians or people of faith say every day that we are not meant to understand why everything that happens happens.

SwankiVY2: But I personally think that if I don't understand something, there's no reason to just believe in it because a book said to and people at my church said to

Brooke: well the devil was an angel before he was a devil

SwankiVY2: I know.

SwankiVY2: I know plenty about Christian mythology.

SwankiVY2: Don't you think that if he became the devil, it was God's plan?

Brooke: no

SwankiVY2: So you think things can happen that God didn't know would happen?

Brooke: no i not sayin that either

SwankiVY2: Then he did know. And did nothing to stop it.

SwankiVY2: Which means it was his plan.

Brooke: ok wut ever...

SwankiVY2: He planned for there to be a devil. It didn't just happen.

SwankiVY2: Which means he created the devil to be the devil and lets suffering happen.

Brooke: u r getiin on my nerves u think u kno but u don't

Brooke: bye

SwankiVY2: I know a lot more than you'd guess.

SwankiVY2: Can't take anyone questioning what you believe because you already know what you believe and can't change anything about it, huh?

Brooke: no i kno alot more it is jus ia m tired of typin cuz i can't tytpe fast

SwankiVY2: But you also can't defend it properly.

SwankiVY2: Okay, sure! Have a great day, bye bye!

Brooke: shuve it

SwankiVY2: How very Christian of you--I'm sure glad I can trust you and that you're such a good person.

Brooke: y]

Brooke: yea

Well that just pretty much says it all right there doesn't it? Just another know-it-all high and mighty moron who belives everything they hear without actually researching what it is they claim to believe in.

I really like how you have done your own research on this subject and have the correct information to properly defend your comments. Good job! Take that bible thumper!

Mikey: Yeah, Brooke how very Christian of you another example of stupidity I think that her faith has been tainted, and on another note I think you handled this with the best possible intentions in words I envy you and your patience in the face of such stupidity I would have a problem keeping my composure I guess I just don't deal well with folks like this who can't back what they say with any logic.

Emily: Haha! I really enjoyed your whole

"God must have meant the Devil to be evil."

"no"

"The God doesn't control all"

"no"

Thing. Well proven!

Sarah: Wow...that was difficult to get through. The difficulty had nothing to do with the religious aspect of the conversation. It was the horrible typing skills that made it so hard to read. How could you stand it? Regardless of her age, I would've had to make a rude comment and end the conversation. I tend to speak the way I write (well, except when I become flustered)...I often wonder if the same applies to "those people." For some reason I heard the voice of a seven-year-old when reading her replies. I wish I could be as nice as you. I love how towards the end she realized she was contradicting herself and got pissed off. *chuckles*

D.: Boy I am just commenting all over this page! I love your rants by the way, even when I don't agree with every line (although I agree with a large majority of what you say) it's intellectually put and I like that. ^_^ Anyway, on with the actual response.

The "Christians doing only good things" is something I've heard once again from my best friend. Although at this stage in my life, I should really be honest and say former best friend, because she's come to a point where I can't really say that and mean it truthfully. But I'm getting away from the point. This girl friend of mine had this idea that Christian guys were the best choice to date for yes, the usual reasons, but also because "since they're Christian, they're good cause they have to be" or at least... that was the basic idea. I'm sure I'm quoting it wrong, but it's close enough. It was really difficult trying to explain to her that Christian didn't necessarily equal good person, just like non-Christian (like me)didn't necessarily equal bad. it was really kind of amusing, since she had no problems accepting non-Christians as possibly good, but she had a lot of difficulty with accepting that Christians could be bad people.

Wolfgang: "my dad had cancer in his brain...didn't." The same thing happened to my father. It's called "remission".It could have been induced by Jesus, but likely also had something to do with chemo therapy more nauseating than your grammar and/or luck.
