David Lanz & Paul Speer: Desert Vision

If you didn't come here via the previous page (i.e., through a Webring or a search), you might want to know what my song drawings are all about; read about them here.

White Sands

BACK: Carlsbad     ♥     NEXT: Stormlight

This sounds just like a desert in the middle of some sort of windstorm, perhaps. Definitely a bit stark and repetitive. I drew the sand dunes first, trying to shade them so that they looked like the music. Somewhere around the middle of the song, it acquires a trudging feeling, as if someone is relentlessly stepping across the sand. I drew the footprints going across the sand, but I realized there was something else to the music too; I felt like perhaps it was symbolic of a journey outside of just the type we can take here on Earth. So my footsteps in the drawing are not just on the earth, though they are for part of the time. In a way they're just passing through. Just as a comment, I have to add that the sands described in the music don't seem very white to me, even though this song is called "White Sands."
