SwankiVY's Book Collection!

Science Fiction/Fantasy
Adams, Douglas Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency I'm not a big fan of Dirk Gently, but I love Adams, so when Mikey found a bunch of books by the dumpster and asked if I wanted any, I grabbed this.
Adams, Douglas The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul Same story as the above.
Adams, Douglas The More Than Complete Hitchhiker's Guide Collection of the first four of the Hitchhiker's Trilogy, plus a short story about Zaphod. I got it at the Book Swap for, like, 13 bucks. I've lost the cover.
Adams, Douglas Mostly Harmless The only book of the Hitchhiker's Trilogy I didn't have once I got the one above. Got it once but somehow lent it out and forgot who I lent it to, still had the dust cover. Ended up buying a new one when I found it used. Still have the old dust cover too.
Adams, Douglas The Original Hitch-Hiker Radio Scripts Found used (wow, who gave that up??) at Books Inc., and couldn't pass it up.
Anthony, Piers On a Pale Horse Haven't actually read this yet. I think it's Meg's, bought for someone else to read and unexpectedly returned, when I volunteered to keep it and read it. Obviously, I lied.
Asimov, Isaac Eight Stories from the Rest of the Robots My friend Jeremy lent me a whole bunch of Asimov even though I'd never much cared for his overly hard SF. I haven't read this, but since Jeremy told me I could just return it sometime before both of us died, I guess I have some time.
Asprin, Robert Little Myth Marker I've never read this series, except the first one. It was cute but not really my style. My college roomie lent a bunch of them to me before we were rooming together, and she never collected them after she left.
Asprin, Robert M.Y.T.H. Inc. Link Ditto above.
Asprin, Robert Myth-ing Persons Ditto above.
Asprin, Robert Myth-nomers and Im-pervections Ditto above.
Banks, Iain M. The Player of Games Holiday gift from Dad, 2021.
Beagle, Peter S. The Last Unicorn Birthday present from Laura, 2010.
Bonta, Vanna Flight "Quantum Fiction," it's called, and it was responsible for a lot of cool connections in my life (including one with the author). I ordered the paperback from the local feminist bookshop, Wild Iris.
Bujold, Lois McMaster The Spirit Ring Was told I'd like her, given this book some random time. Never picked it up, dunno if it's good.
Butler, Octavia E. Adulthood Rites It's the Xenogenesis series. Very cool. Now you get to hear one from the point of a half-alien, half human. :)

Butler, Octavia E. Clay's Ark Mike got this at the Friends of the Library book sale for me.
Butler, Octavia E. Dawn First book of Xenogenesis!

Butler, Octavia E. Kindred Present from Laura, birthday 2011!
Butler, Octavia E. Mind of My Mind One of my favorite authors! Beginning of an excellent series.
Butler, Octavia E. Parable of the Sower Received as a gift from Mikey; I've loved this book for years. Set in a sort of post-apocalyptic setting; a creative, tough, and driven girl with an unusual disorder tries to establish her purpose as well as survive.

Davidson, Avram & Davis, Grania Marco Polo and the Sleeping Beauty Given to me by Victor for my birthday 2018.
Devenport, Emily The Kronos Condition Got this at a used store because, frankly, it had flying people on the cover and I'm biased toward such things since the main character of the novels I write rather enjoys flying herself. I read this book and really disliked it.

Engdahl, Sylvia Children of the Star Given to me by Jessie for a holiday gift 2009, saying that it had some themes I would appreciate.

He sent me volume II, Of Goddess Born, as a present, and then I bought volume III from Amazon even though I read it as a beta reader because I want to have the whole series.

Heinlein, Robert A. Methuselah's Children Ditto above.
Heinlein, Robert A. Starship Troopers Assigned reading in tenth grade, but I don't care for it.

Resnick, Mike Will the Last Person to Leave the Planet Please Shut Off the Sun? Bought new in a fit of "I need this!" when I started working at the bookstore. Robinson, Spider Time Travelers Strictly Cash
Robinson, Spider Very Bad Deaths Birthday present from Victor 2016.

Sagan, Carl Contact Given to me by my Bunky. Strangely, just as good as (better in some ways than) the movie, both of which I enjoyed.
Salvatore, R. A. The Dark Elf Trilogy I received this as a box set from Mikey December 2006; after he had gotten me to read them all he gave me my own copies as a gift.
Shirley, John The Black Hole of Carcosa Where the HELL do I get some of these things? I haven't read this.
Simmons, Dan The Hollow Man Loved as an adolescent and bought new when I started working at the bookstore (working at one does that to you; you suddenly want every good book you ever read because you get a discount now). I also found a cheap hardback at the library book sale, so now I have two.
Tepper, Sheri S. Beauty Adult fantasy book that uses Sleeping Beauty as an inspiration. Yes, that's why I bought it.
Tolkien, J.R.R. The Lord of the Rings box set Really old copies my dad read as a kid. On indefinite loan from his library.

Vinge, Joan D. Alien Blood Bind-up of two of the Cat novels; Mikey gave me his copy when he didn't want it anymore.
Vinge, Joan D. Catspaw Had to have this one. It's book 2 in the Cat series. I worship this woman.
Vinge, Joan D. Dreamfall Book 3 of the Cat series, given to me in hardcover by Mia as a graduation present. (She wrote Oatanese insults all over the inside cover.) It was my least favorite of the series. Which makes it only about 10 times better than most other books.
Vinge, Joan D. Eyes of Amber (and other stories) Short story collection bought for three bucks at a used shop. I'm not a big fan of most of these stories but I love her writing style.
Vinge, Joan D. Fireship Hardcover bought used from Books Inc. Contains two short stories, "Fireship" and "Mother and Child," the second of which freakin' RULES.
Vinge, Joan D. The Outcasts of Heaven Belt Found used at Books Inc. and decided to add it to my collection.

Vinge, Joan D. Psion I lent my original copy to Victor (and he lent me a bunch of stuff too), but we didn't see each other for a while so I bought another one. Then Jeaux gave me a hardcover version for my birthday once, and then Victor returned my copy. So . . . I have three.
Vinge, Joan D. The Snow Queen These books are wonderfully complicated (this is the first in a short series), but even though I didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the Cat series, I had to buy it when I found it at the book sale.

Zahn, Timothy A Coming of Age I read this in high school and bought it used when in college. Its detailing of everyday life for a buttload of telekinetic children may have planted some seeds in my head for the later development of the protagonist of my novels. Yaaay.
Zelazny, Roger & Sheckley, Robert Bring Me the Head of Prince Charming Mike picked this up in hardcover at the library book sale 'cause I'd told him I was on the lookout for it.
