Good News for Modern Man: The New Testament in Today's English Version |
Bible given to me in a surprise package (with other books and magazines) by a well-meaning Christian who tracked me down several days after a discussion and attempted Godvertisement. He thought he'd do his good deed for the day and save me. The package was addressed "To Julie: God's Pretty Poet." I feel very safe now. ::gulp:: |

The Greatest is Love: A special gift edition of the Living New Testament |
See above for how this book came to be in my house. The (scary) inscription: "This is presented to you, Julie--You precious creation of God's, Julie--So that you may live forever in love with Jesus, your creator and lover." Umm . . . Mommy, am I supposed to think of Jesus that way? Hmm. |

I received this as a birthday gift from Stacy, 2012. |

Good News, America, God Loves You |
Same package as above. I guess I need about eight New Testaments to get the message. |

The River of Life |
And again, see above for this book's origin. This time the inscription says the following: "Julie--Please accept this, dear one. I recommend that you, the lover of fantasy, read 'The Revelation,' at the back of The Bible, for the fullest illumination in prophecy that you've ever known. Love, in Jesus--Will." |

Rappin' With Jesus |
Yes, this is actually serious, it's a version of the Gospels translated into ebonics. I bought it for humor value, though, from the sale table at my bookstore. |

Beyond Birth and Death |
This was given to me for a small donation by a random Hare Krishna. We have lots of them in Gainesville and since I lived on the same street as their meeting house for four years and also hung out in the Plaza (where they served their food), I had MANY run-ins with them. I never actually read any of the books in their entirety but it's nice to sample other religions' beliefs. |

Leftover relic from my days at the temple, attempting to learn how to babble in Hebrew. |

Ditto above, though it was focused more on the language aspect than the actual religious aspect. |

Jesus |
Also in the aforementioned package of scary Christian things. Highly illustrated with hokey pictures. |
