SwankiVY's Book Collection!

Kids' Fiction
Abbott, Tony Firegirl Ronni got this for me for holiday time 2009!
Adorjan, Carol That's What Friends Are For Actually I don't know how come I have this, I don't remember reading it or buying it.
Alcott, Louisa May Little Men/Little Women A bind-up of the two Mike found for me at the library book sale.
Andersen, Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales A small paperback of many fairy tales. I got it accidentally when I was collecting Sleeping Beauty stuff, but it doesn't have that tale in it; I don't know how I ended up choosing it on Amazon, but I did. Oh well, 84¢ lost, chunk of dead tree gained.
Colfer, Eoin Airman I bought this with a coupon at Borders because I like the author's other books.
Colfer, Eoin Benny and Omar Found at Haslam's while on vacation, and decided to buy it sight unseen since I generally love Colfer's work (even though Artemis Fowl is my favorite of his stories).
Colfer, Eoin The Supernaturalist Had to get this when it came out in paperback--not as good as Artemis Fowl, but certainly worth owning!
Colfer, Eoin The Wish List Same as above.
Collier, James Lincoln; Collier, Christopher War Comes to Willy Freeman Had to read some children's historical fiction for a college class, this was an all right book but the character development wasn't as good as it could have been, since there was more focus on trying to preserve historical accuracy.
Dahl, Roald The BFG A story about a friendly giant and a little girl. Bought from an eBay store.
Dahl, Roald George's Marvelous Medicine Never read it, but I love the author; picked up for me by Mike at the library book sale.
Dahl, Roald Matilda Since I also love the author as a general rule, I had double the reason to get this. Matilda's got the same special power as the main character of the novels I write, well, turned down a few hundred notches. So, I *had* to read it, plus the movie was real cute.
Dahl, Roald The Twits This was soooo cute.
Dahl, Roald The Witches This was really twisted.
de Saint Exupéry, Antoine The Little Prince A classic I never read as a kid, so I bought it at the library book sale.
Dollak, Nicholas Jenna of Erdovon: The Philosopher's Egg An independently-published book I got for free in exchange for an Amazon.com review.
Edlund, Ben; Griffith, Clay The Tick Some silly stories based on The Tick TV show.
Erskine, Kathryn Mockingbird Birthday present 2012 from Laura.
Faucher, Elizabeth The Addams Family Given to me by my grandma, autographed by Raúl Julia, with whom she was working in the play Man of La Mancha at the time. (They were both singing in the musical.) When given the book to autograph, he exclaimed "I haven't seen this!" and began reading it. Hehe.
Forester, Victoria The Girl Who Could Fly I found this on the shelf at Borders and decided to pick it up sight unseen because I had a coupon. The premise sounds interesting.
Funke, Cornelia Inkheart This was a free advance reader's edition I got from work. It's very good!
Gaiman, Neil M Is for Magic While looking for something worthy of using a discount coupon on, I decided on this at Borders.
Grimm, Jacob and Wilhelm The Complete Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm (Volume 1) If you don't know why I collect versions of Sleeping Beauty/Brier Rose, find out.
Grimm, Jacob and Wilhelm Sleeping Beauty and Other Fairy Tales Ditto above.
Jacobs, Joseph Favorite Celtic Fairy Tales Mikey bought this for me from my wish list online.
HarperFestival A Charming Princess Collection Ditto above.
Hiaasen, Carl Flush Mike purchased this for me as a random gift.
Hiaasen, Carl Hoot Bought used at Books Inc. because it was there, and I'd read it and liked it.
Hiaasen, Carl Scat Got this new with a gift card to Borders.
Hughes, Monica Devil on My Back I'd read this as a kid, so when I saw it for sale at Books Inc. used I decided to get it.
Hughes, Monica Invitation to the Game Book I had as a kid and liked for some odd reason. When I saw it available cheap at a used store I bought it. Neh.
Hughes, Monica The Isis Pedlar Mike got me this from Better World Books because it had been on my list a long time. I'd never read it but wanted to read something else by an author I liked as a kid.
Juster, Norton The Phantom Tollbooth Don't know why I have this since I never read it, but apparently it's kind of a classic.
Konigsburg, E.L. Jennifer, Hecate, Macbeth, William McKinley, and Me, Elizabeth Picked up for me by Mike at the library book sale, at my request.
Lang, Andrew The Blue Fairy Book There are lots of "The [insert color] Fairy Books," but I only have this one because I was interested in the Sleeping Beauty story in it, which is one of the older ones from the Perrault, where you actually have an Ogress trying to eat the princess's children. Yum!
Lubar, David Wizards of the Game I bought this because it'd been on my list forever and I needed one more book to make my order high enough to get free shipping. :D
Le Quesne, Pippa; Woodward, Kay Merry Fairy Holidays Gift from Laura for holiday 2007, to go in my Flower Fairies collection!
Levine, Gail Carson Ella Enchanted The Newbery Honor book--I saw it for sale at the local used bookstore and decided to grab it! I enjoyed it when I read it even though I wasn't a huge fan of her other books.
Levine, Gail Carson Princess Sonora and the Long Sleep This is a humorous retelling of Sleeping Beauty. I like it.
Lindgren, Astrid Pippi Longstocking I loved these books as a kid, so I bought a copy of the original when I found it at the library book sale.
Lubar, David Hidden Talents I read this when I worked at BAM and liked it, so when I saw it for sale cheap at the local used bookstore I bought a copy.
MacDonald, George At the Back of the North Wind Given to me in 1988 by my fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Bordwine. I got the thickest book in the class and was disappointed in myself that I didn't seem to be able to get through it. Now I know that it wasn't because I was stupid, it just wasn't my style.
Maguire, Gregory Three Rotten Eggs Mike got me this at the library book sale. I love Maguire's adult fiction but haven't tackled this copy of his children's work, which actually happens to be an uncorrected proof version.
McGraw, Eloise The Moorchild Very touching story of a girl who's half fairy and half human and can't belong in either world. Struck a chord with me, both because the situations are so similar to the ones I write about with my main character AND because I've felt that different myself before. I have two copies, a teacher's edition paperback and a nice hardback, both found used.
Nall, Gail Breaking the Ice I decided to buy this at B&N because I was acquaintances with the author through mentoring in a contest, but then Jeaux bought it for me for my birthday instead.
Naylor, Phyllis Reynolds Shiloh Mike found this classic for me at the library book sale.
O'Brien, Robert C. The Secret of NIMH Guess this is a novelization of the movie, which I never saw. Can't remember where I got this.
O'Dell, Scott My Name Is Not Angelica Was asked to read this for my social studies methods class, in our unit on historical fiction for kids. Well, Mr. O'Dell might've gotten a Newbery Award once, but it sure as hell wasn't for this. This was dead trees printed with words, not a story, and these were caricatures, not characters. Feh.
Paterson, Katherine The Great Gilly Hopkins Kids' book classic sent to me by Fred for holiday 2011.
Peck, Richard A Long Way from Chicago Bought this used at Mojo.
Peters, Julie Anne How Do You Spell G-E-E-K? Mike sent me this as a random present.
Petersen, P.J. Liars Interesting book about a kid who has the power to tell when someone is lying. Yay.
Pullman, Philip Clockwood Given to me by Jeaux for holiday 2009 because I am a Pullman fan.
Rawls, Wilson Where the Red Fern Grows A childhood favorite, I picked it up at the used bookstore when I saw it cheap.
Roberts, Willo Davis The Girl With the Silver Eyes Probably the first book I ever read that described the everyday life of a child with special powers. Intriguing when I was a child, but not too great when I read it again as an adult. Still, the main character of my novels is telekinetic, so I have a soft spot for any characters like her. :)
Sachar, Louis Dogs Don't Tell Jokes Bought used because I like Sachar. He's brilliant. This was not his most brilliant work, however.
Sachar, Louis Holes He won an award for this one! Ronni gave me a copy for holiday 2007.
Sachar, Louis Sixth Grade Secrets Given to me by my mother when I was finishing up my fifth grade year. She went on a trip with my dad to look for houses for us to move into in Florida, and me and my sisters were left with my little buddy Danielle's parents; Mom wanted to give us something to do while she was gone. This book was wonderful.
Sachar, Louis There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom Another great one by this master kids' writer, all about Bradley Chalkers and his social maladjustment.
Sleator, William The Boy Who Couldn't Die Mike got this for me at the book sale. It's the uncorrected proof version, and it's sort of more horror than kid-friendly, but Sleator has a penchant for writing these things with a little creep to them.
Sleator, William The Boy Who Reversed Himself I think this was the first Sleator I read. It kicks ass.
Sleator, William The Duplicate Another standard sci-fi plot: A kid makes a copy of himself to fulfill both obligations he made, and then has to deal with the consequences.
Sleator, William Fingers This is a creepy book, but I like the author so I got it.
Sleator, William The Green Futures of Tycho Heh, Sleator's got a brother named Tycho, wonder if this is inspired by him.
Sleator, William Into the Dream This guy rules.
Sleator, William The Night the Heads Came Hey, it's Sleator's token alien abduction novel.
Sleator, William Others See Us Not one of his best, but as a science fiction artist who seems to want to try his hand at every sci-fi cliché known to man, he had to have one that dealt with people interacting with some mysterious water and ending up reading each other's minds.
Sleator, William Parasite Pig I didn't even know this sequel to Interstellar Pig existed at first until I ran into it unexpectedly!
Sleator, William Singularity My favorite book by this author.
Sleator, William Strange Attractors This is a time travel book, with a calculator more bad-ass than my high school TI-82 for sure.
Speare, Elizabeth George The Sign of the Beaver When I was in college I had to read some kids' historical fiction for my social studies methods class. This was the best of those that I read.
Spinelli, Jerry Eggs I generally like this author, so when I saw this book I hadn't read for sale in Borders I bought it on a whim.
Spinelli, Jerry Fourth Grade Rats Birthday present from Mike, 2012.
Spinelli, Jerry Jason & Marceline Bought used at Book Swap because I like the author.
Spinelli, Jerry Knots in My Yo-yo String Bought used at Book Swap because I like the author.
Spinelli, Jerry The Library Card Bought used at Book Swap because I like the author.
Spinelli, Jerry Wringer My sister bought me this at Mojo.
Waters, Fiona The Kingfisher Treasury of Princess Stories This collection has a Sleeping Beauty version in it, so I got it.
Williams, Dar Amalee A holiday 2007 gift from Meggie--I like Dar Williams's music, so I figured I'd like her fiction!
