IVY TRIVIA: Ivy is a surprisingly obedient person, even at the beginning of the novels when she is the most undisciplined. As a child, having another person be disappointed in her was the worst punishment she could imagine, and she scrambled to earn others' praise and avoid their criticism. This is a good thing since corporal punishment would have been . . . ineffective, not to mention dangerous.
