This is the scene in which Ivy first meets Nina on her school playground. Though they have just met, Nina takes Ivy's hands and asks if she can "go with her." This marks the beginning of a confusing, frustrating, enlightening, and very unusual friendship. (From THTIB #1, chapter 3)

IVY TRIVIA: Ivy visits Nina's school at least once in every THTIB book. This place has special meaning for Ivy and she enjoys going there even when school is not in session. It has a lot of meaning for her because the school was her first real experience in trying to interact with others like a "normal person."
