School Assignment: Writing a song to teach a concept. Class: Music Methods. Song teaches the colors of the rainbow to lower elementary. |
Written February 2000.
Plain lyrics:
Chorus:
Red, orange, yellow, green and blue,
Indigo and violet:
These are the colors that we see,
When we see a rainbow.
(Repeat chorus)
These seven colors make white light,
Which turns our night to day.
But when the light hits the rain just right,
We look up and say:
(Chorus)

[Note: The only requirement for the assignment was that the song had to help children learn something they needed to memorize or understand for their curriculum; the other students just used already-existing tunes the children would be familiar with, but I decided to write my own songs. The chords weren't part of the assignment either, but I liked to do extra work in this class to challenge myself, because I'd been a music major so it was ridiculously easy for me compared to the other students.]
